Trad Commitment Workshop

In our trad commitment workshop we look at the rational and irrational fears in trad climbing, the mindset needed, how to focus, gear placements and of course, we will do some falling.

Overview

Do you sometimes feel stressed when leading trad climbs?  Or do you get to the point where you feel you are just thoring in some trad gear, and hope for the best?  Our trad commitment workshop is for the competent trad climber, who is looking to grow in confidence in their own gear placement judgement.

The aim of the workshop is to give you a structure to analyse your own placements, and connect the psychological with the physical.  Most of us can look at a placement and think “That’s good”.  But when asked to fall on it, most of us will not, or hesitate.  In this workshop you will have the opportunity to fall on your own placed gear, building confidence in your gear.

On the workshop, we will cover the following areas:

  • Common climbing equipment

  • The forces involved in climbing/falling

  • Strength of equipment, and how this translates to real life examples

  • Protection (selection and placements)

  • Understanding route grading and route selection

  • Ways to reduce forces on equipment

  • Unusual climbing protection

  • Look at bomber gear, and marginal gear

  • And of course, real life falling on trad gear

  • And have fun doing it!

By the end you will have learnt a lot about climbing protection, gained confidence placements, and your own ability to assess them.

We run the workshop in North Wales, the Wye Valley and the Peak District, but if you have a group of 3-6 people, we can run them anywhere in the UK.  Just contact us and ask.
