Fear of Falling Workshop
– With Kevin Roet –
The Fear of Falling is one of the biggest mental barriers climbers face. Whether you’re leading, seconding, or working your project, the fear of falling can silently hold you back. Tightening your grip, tensing your body, and draining your energy long before the crux. Struggling to take falls in climbing or commit to moves, and shouting “Take” or downclimbing are very common.
Our Fear of Falling Workshop is designed to help you take control, understand it, and ultimately use it to climb with confidence and flow.
In our Fear of Falling Workshop, we delve into the science of fear—understanding what happens in the brain and body when anxiety takes hold. And how this impacts our climbing performance. We explore common mistakes climbers make when dealing with the fear of falling, and how mindset and self-awareness play a crucial role in managing it effectively.
Through a blend of psychological techniques and practical falling drills in a safe, supportive environment. You’ll learn how to retrain your response to fear using progressive exposure, trust, and mindfulness. By understanding the science behind fear and learning to manage it, you’ll build the tools and confidence to climb with greater composure, focus, and enjoyment.
In the Fear of Falling Workshop we will explore topics such as:
- The science of fear — how it manifests in the brain and impacts climbing performance

You will also be given a masterclass in belaying, learning how a skilled and attentive belayer can make all the difference when it comes to building confidence and progression with falling in climbing.
By the end of the fear of falling workshop, you will have learnt more about yourself, and grown in confidence in your own ability. And have an array of strategies to take away, and progress further in your climbing.
The workshop consists of 2 hours of theory, followed by 3-4 hours of practical exercises on the wall/rock.
