Podcast 23: Beth Rodden – Drive, Resilience & Passion

Beth Rodden

In this episode, Kevin Roet had the privilege of sitting down with Beth Rodden.  One of the most influential and inspiring figures in modern climbing. Beth’s story is not just about incredible ascents, but about resilience, reinvention, and the complicated relationship many of us have with the sport we love.

We began by exploring how and why Beth first found climbing.  And what has kept her so deeply connected to it for decades. Her journey hasn’t always been straightforward.  It has been a true rollercoaster of passion, joy, pressure, and periods of disillusionment. As a professional climber, she’s experienced the full weight of expectation.  Yet time and time again she’s found ways to rediscover why climbing matters to her.

Beth shared how her early years competing eventually gave way to a deep love for outdoor climbing — a space where she pushed the very limits of human possibility. With her insatiable drive and laser focus, Beth accomplished ascents that not only inspired a generation of climbers, but also reshaped the standards of what was thought possible.

But beyond the achievements, Beth was open about the personal side of her story. We talked about how motherhood has shifted her perspective on climbing and life, offering new forms of motivation and balance. We also dug into her new book, A Light Through the Cracks: A Climber’s Story, where she reflects on her triumphs, struggles, and the lessons learned along the way.

This conversation is thoughtful, and packed with insight — from the high points of elite climbing to the challenges of navigating identity, pressure, and personal growth.

Tune in to hear Beth’s journey in her own words — a story of drive, resilience, and the light that can shine through even the hardest of cracks.
